Aaaaaaaaaaand back on topic, I find that usually, most PuGs that are just 'LFM for whatever' accept my join invite... and more recently, I've seen teams looking for mesmers. This is pretty cool, but the underlying issue of the problem of PvE mesmer is nobody but the dedicated mesmers are really that good in PvE. This is because, unlike eles, necros etc.. where you can take a build and play it, mesmers need a bit more finesse, because you don't follow the called target and have to know which enemies to lock down, which spells to cancel, etc...

We need to organize a Mesmer Pride March or something

Uh huh, a massive gathering of Mesmers river dancing will show everyone how dominating and powerful we mesmers are. It will change people's view of mesmers forever...I can see it now...

Person: LFP for mission and bonus, one slot left.
Me: *invites self*
Person: erm...can you interupt?
Me: No, but I can riverdance.
Person: Great, you're in.
Me: HOORAY!

Well, actually, there's going to be. I'm not allowed to post links to a rival fansite, but as far as I know (I'm not organizing this):

St. Patrick's Day Riverdance Event

* Friday, March 17th 2006 @ 6pm PST/7pm MST/8pm CST/9pm EST
* Males: Collector's Armor (Maybe Stylish?)
* Females: Virtuoso or FoW (Maybe Courtly?)
* Recommended color: Green + Silver
* Lion's Arch, International District 1

Requested outfits are optional, though. Come as you are.

EDIT: This is actually for the filming of a music video, as I understand it, although the director isn't opposed to mass goofing off and partying either.

Mesmer "get-togethers" have been done before by some groups (or so I hear) and there was recently talk of getting one together, but nothing has since been done about it. There have even been all-mesmer groups going into the Tombs for some hot PvE action.

If any mesmers ever want to just hang out, the usual gathering place tends to be FH. (FH > Grotto) We should get cracking on that Mesmer Dance-Fest.

I've kinda wanted to actually have a weekend where Mesmers just take over a district of a town, in effect. Like, we could all congregate in LA Int. 1 for 48-72 hours or so. It's usually pretty empty, except for when Gaile pops in. And wouldn't it be funny for Gaile to show up when the place is full of Mesmers?

And we could galavant about the countryside, taking stuff out and using it as a starting point for missions and quests and the like if people so choose. Mesmers need to get together more often, I think.

Edit: Posted while jciardha was still posting. Can I ask who's setting it up?

How to make mesmer players more popular in PvE?

Add more heal-spamming monks and monk bosses to all explorable areas and missions. Add boon prot monks who are too fast to interrupt, so you can't depend on a ranger for cheap fast-charging interrupts, but must instead rely on mesmers for other forms of shutdown. Give some of the healers Balanced Stance, so you can't just use Meteor Shower on them.

Add more effective mesmer mobs that use Cry of Frustration, Power Leak, Diversion, and other things that really annoy players. Have them use 16-domination Shatter Hex on their own meleers who are standing right next to the players. Players might not see what the mesmers on their own team are doing, but they will sure as heck feel it if the enemy mesmers fight effectively. That might give players a better appreciation of what mesmers do.

Make Fast-Casting more valuable by adding more interrupt rangers that make life hard for the slow-casting Necromancers and Elementalists.

I think it's fine the way it is for mesmers. They are probably the most powerfull single class PvP so why not make it hard to use and unlock elites PvE with them. Personally I hate Mesmers and want them all to die a horrible death. But then trying to find new and more wonderfull ways to kill them drives me to play more. You bastards.

You guys also forget that "flashs" are symbols of what a charater is doing. Thus it brings communication to the team. "I know my elementalist is droping rocks on my opponents head, whats my mesmer doing?".

Better communiction = Better fighting

But you can actually see the rocks falling... have you seen a mesmer cast empathy and then notice the opponant kill themselves every time they attack? Or have you seen your mesmer cast Westrel's Worry or Panic on an opponant? How about backfire? Were you aware that when the enemy casts a skill and gets hurt, it had backfire or simply took damage because your elementalist cast a rock on its head?

I have four characters on my one account that I've been playing almost nine months. All of them have black 15k armor, so I've been around. In all the playing I've done, I have come to love and hate masmers.
I started out with my warrior... and learned to appreciate what an effect they can have on my ability to fight. My monk watches out for mes because an emergency heal is more critical than an emergency fireball... damn mes! And my primary character, my elementalist... well I can't stand all the interrupts, grr! Hate mes, depending on circumstances, it's the monk or the mesmer that I kill first.
But god I love my mes. I created him because I love to screw with people. I run a nearly pure Dom mes. I loved him in the beginning, but I hated him in the midgame. Nearly gave up on him because I was used to the way my elementalist worked. But when my skill picked up with him, the enemies didn't stand a chance, and I noticed them falling with amazing ease.
I should explain that I don't group with people for missions or quests very often... about one or two missions in the whole game. First, I just don't like people... but I also feel it hones your skills to stick to hench. I tell my guildies to try doing things without my help, because it forces you to focus on what targets are high priority for your class. The computer tends to pick on you, so you learn to pick out the threats fast, and that skill carries over into everything. My mesmer is more of a General, I tell my henchmen what to target, make sure the battle is fought in my favor, and make sure that the enemies face horrible headaches for facing me.
I think that most people who group are carried by the good players, and absolutly, positively, NEVER notice that they suck... badly. I know this is bragging, but I have noticed every group I join has quick success... often they will say things along the lines of "finally, I've been doing this all day!" As a nuker who considers himself good, I notice the mistakes all the other nukers out there are making, and I'm sure the same aplies to mesmers... but, if you only come across 6 mesmers in the whole of the game, and 5 of them suck... you tend to not want another mesmer... which is silly, because mesmers are invaluable.
And one last thing, male mesmers start out in silly looking gear, but I love my mesmer in his black 15k enchanter's armor... he looks sleek in the black leather. I don't think there is anything gay about the evil mastermind look.

It's just that said Evil mastermind happens to be spinning in the air waving a pink baton.

Mesmers, who's effects aren't felt as much, are very easily carried by the team because none of the team notice. And this much be why every mesmer im in a team with uses conjure and ether feast. BAH!

...pink batons...of DOOM!!!...

...ahem...

I won't argue that there are mes out there getting carried. I don't have a high opinion of people (obviously, though this is the only thread that I've taken such a stance on... I'm generally a nice guy .) And this opinion aplies equally to mesmers as to anyone. I'm just a little bitter I guess after seeing all the "bigshots" out there who claim to skill, but clearly don't know their skill bar. I know that you know what I'm talking about. How many nukers have you seen that still drop firestorm at every opportunity? Without a way to keep a foe static (this is where teamwork comes in), it's just wasted energy (unless you are using it to purposfully clear an area.)
Elementalists can have the same type of problems. I love my meteor swarm, but people assume that you aren't doing anything if you aren't constantly dropping rocks from the sky. As if that's all an elementalist could do! Lol. Our main foe here is ignorance, which unfortunatly, is far to widespread to do anything about. 90% of people are morons, just have to learn to ignore them. Having trouble getting a group for a mission? I'd help any of you through a mission, because I can see you are all worthwhile people. I suggest that you note the other names on this thread. Ask for help. They can't all have one character. You could form an awsome group right here, where the true strategists lay. I don't know where my bleh attitude came from today, but there you go, my naked oppinion.

oh, and remember... pink batons of DOOM!!!

This is why I have to kill male mesmers, you see

I know exactly what you mean about bigshots that don't understand the skills properly... I've spent huge amounts of time reading the skills and learning them... to the point there are people who sit in my class at school, have never played the game, and know nearly the entire skill list of every class (I talk too much )

They're in every character type... mending, firestorm... conjure phantasm, ether feast, chaos storm...

These are the spells that people see most, these are the spells people remember mesmers to suck by. I have yet to see another PvE mesmer that seriously impresses me. Egotistic as that sounds, it's true. The last one I saw spammed feast at full life, backfired warriors, use conjure phantasm in FoW... *bleed*

Unlike the more helpful Dobo, I probably wouldn't help people through missions if you asked me (FoW/UW is a different matter!)... nothing personal, I'm just either FoWing or idling in GW usually. However, as always, I am open to any questions on mesmer build design... except telling you what I use (It's easy to tell anyway, I mention my favorite skills in almost every major post).

Don't be scared of my pink baton of doom... it only hurts at first...

I'm trying to be helpful again... it's sad that I stopped months ago. To many people who I just plain don't want to be around. Ungrateful and rude... grrr! But helping people is how I met so many great people. Besides, I'm bored sick with farming. I've spent between 900k-1 million already. Farming is good to me... to bad it's got me hating turning the game on. Now I just tinker with skills, make some trades, generally just putz around. I think it's time to help some people out again, make some new freinds... I must be nuts...

In the end it comes down to the fact that most people aren't idiot's - they just don't want to, or can't, think outside the box. Most people go for the easiest path and easiest character's to play or the easiest play-style. Just look at how popular Dungeon Siege was.. and what was that but a hold-your-hand game that anyone person could play without having to think for themselves?

In the end you have a whole bunch of people playing with the majority of players taking the easy road - Warrior, Elementalist & Monk .. and when they go to play with other people they look for the same.. the same styles and character type's as they are playing. Yes Necro's & Ranger's are getting more "use" now as people start to see certain viable strats.. but you'll notice people asking for necro's or ranger's are only after those "easy" strat's that they know about.

And as for people who play Mesmer's - the good ones you won't see as they will be henching or playing with guildies.. the ones you get in PUG's will generally be the idiotic ones.. like the ones Avarre mentioned.. ones who spam Phantasm.. or will backfire warrior's or any number of stupid things. Generally that doesn't help the general perception of Mesmer's..

It's also as has been said because what Mesmer's do isn't slap-bang right in-your-face! type of damage/action. You can see when a warrior is tanking,. you can see the fireballs and firestorms and meteor shower's of Elementalist's, you cans ee the healing/protection from monk's.. you can see Ranger's traps going off or their pets attacking or a Necro's MM minion's, etc and so on .. but who pays attention to the pink arrow's on the enemies health bars? or notices the enemies health dropping as they attack or cast spells? Who notices that an enemy warrior is no longer using any energy based attacks?

You won't find me in PUG's ... Too full of idiot's and jerks and stupidness. I'd rather hench everything. so far I'm having fun with my Mesmer.. and so far only ever had 1 person send me a random invite while on as my Mesmer *shrugs* Not that I would accept em.. but I definately got more when going through as my Warrior or Elementalist.. but I put it down to player ignorance and players wanting to go with "standard" grouping's.

In the end Guild Wars is a game, a game played to have fun - at least the majority probably try and have fun. And most gamers aren't that bright and don't really look at what a class can do.. they go for the easy road. Why else do you think game hacks, cheat's, etc are so prevailant and common and available for virtually every game there is? It's because most people can't think outside the box and don't want anything challanging.. they just want it easy and simple and just blaze through things without having to think about things.

Perhaps if we make a Mesmer History month... But that's taken by Charr Awareness month.. No, let's not do anything about mesmers.
